IACM Statement
on the Russian Invasion of Ukraine
Dear Members of IACM,
Dear Conference Participants,
The International Association for Comparative Mythology states unequivocally that we condemn the war in Ukraine started by the Russian government. We call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to this war. We mourn for the victims of the humanitarian catastrophe unleashed by the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
We express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and, as a scholarly society, we offer our help to the scholars from Ukraine and encourage them to participate in our upcoming conferences free of charge and to publish their work in our journal.
At the same time, we support our members and colleagues from Russia who stand with us against the war, many of whom are risking their freedom and maybe even lives openly opposing the war and the actions of the government. We invite Russian scholars to participate in our conferences and submit their papers to our publications. Nevertheless, until the end of the war, the IACM severs all academic ties with all state-sponsored institutions in Russia. While recognizing that most of the Russian scholars have no choice but to be affiliated with a state university or research institution, we are asking them to NOT submit any papers sponsored by government grants and to NOT acknowledge any such grants as a source of funding in their abstracts and papers.
No to war! Ні війні! Нет войне!
The Board of Directors,
IACM
